The Gbong Gwom Jos, President Jos Joint Traditional Council and Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs and the Grand Patron of all Berom Organizations, His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba CON being accompanied by BeDagwom Rwey and BeGwom Rwey today performed the Commissioning and inspection of two blocks of 5 Classrooms each at BECO Comprehensive High School Kwi, Riyom LGA which were renovated and furnished by Wunato Besa Socioeconomic Group and Berom Community in Northern America (BCNA).



Speaking at the occasion, the Paramount Ruler underscored the importance of education and appreciated the illustrious Sons and Daughters who undertook the projects which he described as laudable.


He urged the Berom Nation to pursue purposive unity and contribute immensely to the transformation of the citadel of learning as well as the develop of the State and Nation at large.

The Royal Father said the drive is to see massive infrastructural development and upgrade of the School to a College of Education in the nearest future.
He called on the Citizens to be security conscious and adhere strictly to all COVID-19 Protocols.

Chairman of Wunato Besa, Da Austin Pam Dalyop hinted that as a group, they were moved to intervened after assessing the deplorable condition of the School and knowing the importance of education to Nation building.
Da Austin said “the collapse of a nation begins with the falling of its educational system”
He went further to stress that they were motivated to renovate the structures to give the young ones a conducive Teaching/Learning environment.
“We therefore decided to commit resources to renovate the whole block containing 5 classrooms. The works included reroofing the block, fixing of pvc ceiling, fixing of broken windows and doors, provision of terrazzo tiles, construction of walkway from the Principal’s office to the renovated block, replacing blackboards with whiteboards and painting the entire block. We have also supplied packets of white Boards markers and cleaners” he said.


He said the group undertook the project as its 2020 intervention and has other plans for 2021 which include; Renovation of the roof of the laboratory which has good internal facilities, extension of electricity to the college premises and the resuscitation of the water scheme of the school to provide potable water in the college for students and staff.
He commended the House of Representatives Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency for the infrastructural projects he is undertaking which will have significant impact to the School.

Berom Educational and Cultural Organisation President who was represented by his Deputy, Da CSP Yusuf Loksi VwosDung (Rtr) commended the Wunato Besa and Berom Community in North America for the projects being commissioned as well as the BECO University of Jos Chapter, other groups and individuals who he said have done excellently well in contributing to sustaining the School.
He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Gbong Gwom Jos for his contributions in the area of renovation, furnishing and provision of instructional materials which he said remains the highest as an individual.
He called on Berom illustrious Sons and Daughters to intervene in any area they deem fit to transform the School.

The Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Dr. Simon Mwadkwon in his remark said he is challenged by the intervention of the two Berom Groups to do more than the two blocks of three classrooms each and staff rooms which he is executing in the School.
He said he will commit part of his yearly constituency projects to infrastructural development of the School.

He said education is key and any serious Nation will invest hugely to it.
He commended the Executives of BECO for being visionary and for providing credible & pragmatic leadership.

The Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ayuba Abok on Sunday January 3rd 2021 hosted Plateau Youths from all divides to a barbeque at the Millennium Garden, Rayfield in Jos. The barbeque was well attended by youths from all political, religious and ethnic divides.


It was an atmosphere of joy and reunion for youths who used the opportunity to celebrate the New Year and wish themselves greater days ahead.


The Speaker who was physically excited by the turnout took time to greet everyone in person and explained the need to unite as Plateau Youths. He pledged his support for Plateau Youths to achieve greater success and the Progress of the State.


The Speaker announced his desire to collaborate with all youth groups in the state in the nearest future in order to forge a collective agenda and future for the State. He stressed that Plateau can only be built and promoted by Plateau people, hailing the resilience of youths so far.

Rt. Hon Abok urges Plateau youths to guard the state jealously saying we don’t have any state apart from this, therefore, we must guard it and live in peace with each other for the State to prosper.

A socio-cultural group of Professionals in Plateau State christened Plateau Our Heritage (POH) has inaugurated its College of Administration (COA), 9 Development Teams and held a Social Hangout for Members.

The Convener of the Group, Hon. Ayuba Pam Dangwong hinted that the group was birthed a year ago to pursue unity, peace and development of the State.

APC Announces Date, Plans for Membership Registration Nation Wide.

The registration of new members and update of register of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will commence on Jan. 25, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The party said this in its New Year message to Nigerians, issued by John Akpanudoedehe, Secretary of its Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), on Friday in Abuja.

“We have recognised the need for continued conflict resolution and have decided to vigorously pursue reconciliation on all fronts in order to emerge as a stronger party, ahead of the congresses and the 2023 general elections.

“Having got the approval for the party membership registration, CECPC is now set to undertake the exercise efficiently and effectively in a record time, beginning from Jan. 25,” he said.

Mr Akpanudoedehe added that the party’s CECPC was fully prepared to conduct total congresses at all levels, through a fair and transparent process of electing officials for its various organs.

This, he said, would culminate in the party’s national convention.

The CECPC secretary added that the committee was working to create a member-centered party structure that would guarantee full participation of all and accord privileges to strengthen APC members’ trust, beliefs and engagements in all its activities.

He further added that recognising that time was well against it, the CECPC was already doubling efforts to meet up with the tasks ahead of it in 2021.

Mr Akpanudoedehe stressed that the committee was rebuilding the party to strengthen democracy, assuring that its commitment to leading the process of political change in the country was unwavering.

He said the party’s national secretariat had discussed the need for registration of new APC members and update of its register to improve on its membership and support-base nationwide.

“Our party, its leadership and members join Nigerians to celebrate the commencement of another year – 2021; indeed, the year 2020 evokes mixed feelings for our great party.

“Just like every other sector and activities belaboured by the year-long restrictions globally due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as a party, we did have our share of the inconveniences.

“Aside the pause of party activities in the course of the year, we spent part of the year witnessing internal rancour that almost threatened the kernel of the party,” he said.

This, Mr Akpanudoedehe added, warranted the prompt interventions of the party leadership, including its National Executive Committee (NEC).

He added that the fact that the party survived the onslaught, emerged yet stronger and went on to win a number of critical elections across the country in 2020, was a testament to its great strength.

He thanked APC members across the federation, the leadership and President Muhammadu Buhari for the support and encouragement given to the committee since its inauguration.

Mr Akpanudoedehe also appreciated the leadership of the National Assembly and the entire APC caucus of both chambers for their total support, collaboration and understanding within the period.

“We thank our ministers for their support, particularly the Attorney-General of the Federation, for providing legal guidance and advice that have helped the CECPC’s decisions.

“The CECPC also deeply appreciates the confidence and trust our esteemed governors of the Progressive Governors’ Forum reposed in it.

“We equally thank and appreciate all others, the media inclusive, who have contributed in various ways to the success of CECPC,” he said.

Mr Akpanudoedehe added that the party’s efforts at resolving internal conflicts at various chapters had paid off.

This, he said, was especially so with members’ desire in complying with the party resolutions to withdraw and terminate all ongoing litigations that involved the party.

He noted that in the course of the year, the committee was able to resolve the ownership tussle surrounding the building that housed the APC national secretariat, adding that necessary settlement to take full control of the building was already in progress.

According to him, settlement of outstanding litigation fees is one of the targets of CECPC from the outset, which it has been able to deliver to a large extent in the last six months.

“Suffice to say that as much as CECPC is proud to announce that it has done well by all standards in the last six months, there is still more to be done and which we are set to do and complete before the end of the tenure of CECPC”, Mr Akpanudoedehe said.

The CECPC was inaugurated on June 25, 2020 as an interim administration, to steer the affairs of the APC and organise a national convention to elect substantive party executives.

Plateau LGAs’ Protest: Workers Appeal to Members to Suspend Action Over Minimum Wage

*Alleged highjack of protest by opposition politicians, hoodlums

*Say protest now turned into 2023 campaign

*Withdraw from action to allow relevant bodies negotiate with concerned stakeholders, they charged

*Urged govt to sustain negotiations with stakeholders, declare own position

AS local government workers in Plateau State continue street protests against the state government’s non implementation of the new minimum wage at the council level,a group of their colleagues under the aegis of Plateau Concerned Local Government Staff Forum (PLALOCAF) has appealed for suspension of the action.

PLALOCAF said its appeal for suspension of the action was based on the ground that the protest meant to draw attention of the state government to the deplorable plight of workers at the council level and push for implementation of the new minimum wage at the state’s local government level,had been hijacked by opposition politicians and hoodlums alike for selfish reasons.

Besides, the group of alleged that the protest has become an avenue for the desperate opposition politicians to feather their nest,adding that the development had been turned into campaigns for the 2023 elections.

A statement on Friday, and signed by representatives from the three senatorial districts of the state,the group called on members to withdraw from the action to allow relevant bodies negotiate with the government towards amicable resolution.

In the statement signed by Mr Pam Bot for Northern Zone, Nde Patrick Gomos for Central Zone and Sir Birtrus Nanven for Southern Zone, the group charged the state government on the other hand, to sustain negotiations with stakeholders and declare its own position to the aggrieved workers.

“We, the entire management and members of Plateau State Concerned Local Staff Forum (PLALOCAF), came together to issue this statement after a critical and painstaking analysis of the over one-month old strike protest embarked upon by our members and the circumstances that led to the protest.

” We observe with regret that protesters have continuously blocked the entrance to the Plateau State Secretariat for over three weeks, thereby preventing civil servants and other legitimate income earners access to the secretariat for their legitimate business.

“This is illegal and worrisome. This development which we have found to be sponsored by some self-seeking and desperate opposition politicians in the state is a threat to peace and stability of the state,” the group said.

The statement further read:”While we admit that local government staff have absolute rights to protest over their grievances, we must state without fear or favour that the protest have been hijacked by some failed politicians who are out to get at the government of Governor Simon Bako Lalong at all cost. We must not allow that.

“This act negates the purpose and intent of this protest and we are appealing to all members to call off the protest without further delay and allow our umbrella body NULGE, negotiate with the state government and other stakeholders.”

PLALOCAF said:”Our message has been passed to the government at all levels and from the engagement held between government and our leadership,we, the concerned members are satisfied with the feedback from our leadership and we hereby withdraw from protest immediately.”

It added:” We appeal to our all colleagues to stand down the protest and allow our leadership engage with the government and other stakeholders for an amicable solution.”

“Plateau belongs to all of us irrespective of our political, religious and ethnic alignments, the unity, peace, and stability of the state should be paramount to us and not our interest alone.”

“We can only eat and sleep in peace when there is peace. Collecting money, food and other supplies from opposition politicians, and allowing thugs who are not local government staff to infiltrate us is not only dangerous but a serious threat to peace and unity of our state.”

It said: “The blocking of the entrance of the state secretariat by our members during the protest was agreed just to be for three days, to pass a strong message to government but all of a sudden, politicians started sponsoring some of our members and sending in thugs to protest with us. What is really the interest of these politicians?”

According to the workers,”Our continued blocking of the state secretariat is like stopping the engine of a car that has full passenger inside by a particular passenger.”

“The implication of this is that everyone will suffer including the person that stopped the car.”

” It is so sad that we even turned back some non civil servants who go to the secretariat to earn their legitimate living! How will they feed their families?”. They asked.

” We turn back people going to secretariat to process deaths and pensions benefits for their loved once all because we are protesting? Is everyone supposed to go hungry because we have not been paid minimum wage?” The statement read.

According to the statement, ” It is now clear that there is a sinister motive, which is the politics of 2023.”

“Consequently, we are pulling out from this protest immediately. We appeal to all our members to stand down the protest before hoodlums further infiltrate our ranks and make the state ungovernable. Let’s manage the fragile peace in the state,” it said,as it called on “security agencies to put in place close surveillance measures to avert any eventuality.” They are urged to deal decisively with hoodlums or others that may want to break the law or infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens of the State.

PLATEAU STATE EXCO HOLDS LAST SESSION FOR 2020

At its last Executive Council Meeting for the year 2020, Plateau State EXCO sat for about 4 hours to decide on a variety of issues.

The meeting held at the EXCO chambers of the new Government House Little Rayfield Jos and was presided over by Governor Simon Bako Lalong with some of its members joining virtually.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Communication Dan Manjang together with his colleagues for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs Sylvanus Tapgun, Chrysanthus Ahmadu Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Regina Soemlat, Commissioner for Finance, and Engr. Sunday Hyat, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works gave highlights of the decisions reached at the meeting.

They said EXCO was briefed on the upsurge in Covid-19 cases in the State and resolved that there shall henceforth be exercise of prosecution order to deal with violators of the guidelines for the pandemic. For the time being, there is no contemplation of lockdown of the State. Therfore, the denial of the existence of COVID-19 in Plateau State will henceforth be criminalised.

EXCO also mandated the reawarding of contracts for some road projects earlier revoked. They include Tahoss/Ganawuri Road; Mangu bye-pass road; Shinkwan/ Tunkus/Shendam bye-pass as well as the rehabilitation of Kwande Biem-Biem road formally awarded to PW.

Also approved is the supply of official vehicles for various Government officials who have not been given official cars since they were appointed over one year ago.

The council also gave approval for an Executive bill to be sent to the Plateau House of Assembly plateau State on the creation of the Plateau State Investment Promotion Council.

To facilitate better pursuance of the Rescue Mission, council also inaugurated sub-councils arising from the Executive retreat earlier held in the year which will henceforth
deliberate on memos before being taken to EXCO. They include Shared services; Human capital; Economic and finance and Physical Infrastructural Development.

On the implementation of the new minimum wage at the Local Government level, Council frowned at the way Local Govt Staff have resorted to intimidating, blackmailing and threatening the State Government over the wages of another tier of Government.

The Council reafirmed that it is the sole responsibility of the Local Governments to hire, fire, renumerate and discipline their employees based on their terms.

The Council advised Local Government Chairmen to take responsibility of negotiating with their staff now that they are fully autonomous.

Council frowned at the manner the Local Government workers have taken for granted the magnanimity and benevolence of the Governor to intervene in the negotiations by not only turning down various options to resolve the matter, but going ahead to blackmail the Governor and other State Government officials.

GOVERNOR LALONG’S NEW YEAR MESSAGE

Governor Simon Bako Lalong has congratulated Plateau State citizens Nigerians for witnessing the year 2021.

The Governor in a message said despite the challenges of the outgone year, Nigerians should be optimistic and pray for recovery and progress.

Lalong said the economic challenges brought about by COVID-19 and recession can only be overcome by deliberate synergy between the Government, private sector and citizens in pursuing set objectives that will create opportunities for recovery and growth.

He said “We must all join hands together to overcome COVID-19 which adversely affected our economy last year remains a threat that could cause disruptions in the new year because of the second wave. While Government intensifies action in tackling the disease, the citizens must take personal responsibility for their health and and that of others by strictly observing COVID-19 protocols at all times. Government shall not hesitate to take serious measures that will ensure that we avoid another lockdown due to the pandemic”.

On security, the Governor said with the training and deployment of the first batch of community police constables, his administration will invest more in intelligence gathering and preventive measures by fishing out criminals before they wreck havoc.

He promised that the Government will continue to support the conventional security agencies to apprehend and prosecute criminals particularly on crimes relating to kidnapping, cultism, land grabbing and other violent crimes using the law that he recently signed to curb such occurrences.

Governor Lalong further restated the commitment of his Rescue Administration in human capital development through training and empowerment of youths and women and other groups in various entrepreneurship schemes both initiated by the State and Federal Governments.

Lalong wished the citizens a prosperous new and also pledged that his administration will continue with the construction of physical infrastructure including the Legacy Projects currently going on in the three Senatorial Districts.

Today, Chakarum and Dangyel Communities of Vwang District in Jos South LGA, Plateau State were filled with joy as an apolitical group of Professionals under the auspice of Berom Progressive Minds (BPM) distributed food items as palliatives to the less privileged comprising mostly of widows, orphans and the aged.

Presenting the food items which included Rice, Groundnut Oil and Maggi, the National Coordinator of BPM, Hon. Pamson Dagyat said the gesture was to assist the people who have undergone series of violent attacks which has affected their means of livelihood and other economic activities adversely.
He said the group is aware of the challenges confronting the people and will continue to do its best to assist.




Hon. Pamson encouraged the people to be resilient and ensure they are more united to confront their numerous challenges.
He urged them to be prayerful, security conscious and demonstrate commitment towards the development of the areas.


Speaking on behalf of the Gwom Rwey (District) Vwang, Da Luka Badung Choji the Damanjei (Village Head) Chakarum lauded the humanitarian gesture of the group and for identifying with the needy at this critical time.
He presented some of the needs of the Communities which included lack of portable drinking water, bad roads etc.
He prayed God to open greater doors to the group in order to continue making greater impacts.


Rev. Joshua Danyok, Head of COCIN LCC Chakarum appreciated the group for demonstrating love and empathy to the people by donating food items to them.


Pharm. Blessing Adamu Dalyop Chairman of the BPM Palliatives Committee admonished the people to remain steadfast, trust God and positive in life saying they shouldn’t be deterred by their present predicament.

One of the beneficiaries, Ngo Nvou Davou who couldn’t hide her joy appreciated the group for identifying with them and assisting them with food items.
