NAFEST TECHNICAL COMMITTEE VISITS GOVERNOR LALONG

Ahead of the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) scheduled for November in Jos, Plateau State, Members of the Technical Committee for the event have visited Governor Simon Bako Lalong at the Government House Little Rayfield to assure him that the whole country is being mobilised for the festivity.

Leading the delegation to the Government House, Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture Otunba Segun Runsewe praised Governor Lalong for approving the hosting of the event in the State.

He said NAFEST 2020 will be a historic event because Plateau State is the Home of Peace and Tourism and has a rich cultural history that has been at the centre of national development in many ways.

He said “Plateau State is an attraction to people within and outside Nigeria. By restoring peace to the State, you have increased the invitation for development and progress of the people. This is why tourism and culture can now be used as a tool for improving the economic fortunes of the people and showcasing the hospitality and beauty of Plateau. This we shall achieve by staging NAFEST”.

He commended the Governor showing leadership particularly resolving the date for the event which he said was an initiatial challenge. This he said has motivated about 5 states to begin jostling for hosting rights for the next edition.

Governor Lalong while responding said the State was honoured to host NAFEST 2020 because it will further confirm the peace and tranquillity pervading the State which makes development possible.

He said “We have to promote our culture and heritage which is a great asset. If we do not market Nigeria, no one can market it for us. Our focus is to develop tourism and culture as another way of harnessing economic and social resources. This explains why it is difficult to leave Plateau when people come here”.

Lalong assured that the Government will expedite action on the completion of the Luka Bentu Indoor Theatre for the event while the airlines operating to Jos have been advised to make adequate arrangements for people attending the event.

The Governor also said that the State will ensure that everything is done in line with COVID-19 protocols even as the cases have dropped significantly in recent times due to the proactive approach adopted by the Government.

INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE DISSOLVES POLICE SPECIAL ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD (SARS)

PRESS RELEASE

IGP DISSOLVES THE SPECIAL ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD (SARS)
· Emplaces other measures to protect the citizens

In the finest spirit of democratic, citizen-centred and community policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has today, 11th October, 2020, dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where they hitherto existed.

The IGP, while noting that the dissolution of SARS is in response to the yearnings of the Nigerian people, observes that by this dissolution, all officers and men of the now defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad are being redeployed with immediate effect.

The IGP notes that the Force is not oblivious of the ever present need to combat armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country which was before now the core mandate of the erstwhile Squad. He assures that a new policing arrangement to address anticipated policing gaps the dissolution of SARS would cause has been evolved and shall be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, as part of measures to prevent a re-occurrence of events that gave rise to the dissolution of SARS, a Citizens’ and Strategic Stakeholders’ Forum is being formed to regularly interface with Police leadership at all levels and advise on police activities as they affect the general public.

In addition, the Force is constituting an Investigation Team which shall include Civil Society Organizations and Human Rights Bodies to work with the Police in investigating alleged cases of human rights violations. The measure, the IGP believes, will enhance transparency and accountability in police services as well as providing a system of deterrence for erring police officers whose action clearly violates the rights of the citizenry.

The IGP appreciates and commends all citizens particularly those who genuinely express their concerns for a better policing orientation in an organized, patriotic and civil manner. He reaffirms the determination of the Force to bequeath to the country a Police Force and System that is professional in service delivery and most importantly, accountable to the people.

TWO YEARS IN OFFICE OF SIR JOHN DAMAP, PANKSHIN LG BOSS:KOR PATRIOTIC FRONT CARPET HIM FOR INCLUDING RENOVATION OF KOR BRIDGE AS PART OF HIS ACHIEVEMENT AS THE BRIDGE REMAINED THE SAME

TWO YEARS IN OFFICE OF SIR JOHN D. DAMAP, PANKSHIN LG BOSS:KOR PATRIOTIC FRONT CARPET HIM FOR INCLUDING RENOVATION OF KOR BRIDGE AS PART OF HIS ACHIEVEMENT AS THE BRIDGE REMAINED THE SAME

By Jatmak Solomon, Jos

PRESS RELEASE

The attention of Kor Patriotic Front has been drawn to a malicious news report circulating on social media, especially WhatsApp, Facebook and by Walinronnewsfeed which is handled by Bitrus Mangut, the information officer of Pankshin Local Government Council, that renovation of Kor Bridge is among the project executed by the Sir John Damap led administration in Pankshin and is being included as his achievements.

We the Kor Patriotic Front will like to let the cat out of the bag, let the whole world know the truth.

Sometimes last year, during 2019 raining season, Kor Bridge was partially wash away by over flowing water, the Kor Development Association (KODA) led by the President, Nde Thomas Yilji and his officials met the Councilor representing Belning Ward, Hon Dunka Hosea and inform him of the grave danger post by the collapsing Bridge, and intimated him on the need for Pankshin Local Government to intervene immediately, the Honourable Council did not waste any time, he reported the matter to the Executive Chairman and immediately the Chairman move to Kor with the Councilor, KODA officials and others, the secretary of Ngolong Kor, Nde Stephen Sekat was called upon to be part of team to ascertain the damage of the bridge, after seeing the damage done to the bridge, Hon. Damap ask the councilor of the Ward to inform Kor Community to write a letter to the council through the councillor for funds to be made available and for work to start on the Bridge immediately as that is the only Bridge linking Kor, Belning Ward Headquarters with Belning Central, Belning South and Pankshin Town.
Having written the letter requesting the immediate help and intervention from Pankshin Local Government, it was agreed that Kor Development Association (KODA) will be given the work and funds be released to them, Kor community brought a contractor of high repute Engr. Emmanuel Yilkwalba who have been in the business of construction 🚧 for yes in Kano, Abuja, Kaduna, and many other places to value the damage done to the Bridge and cost it.
After accessing the Bridge, he reported back to KODA that the bridge need to be re-enforce and expand and that it will cost 1.2million.
Kor Community wrote to the Local Government through the Councillor representing Belning Ward, Hon. Dunka Hosea, the Councillor was up and doing and the contract was approved but the cost reduced to 1 million, Kor Community and their Contractor were anxiously waiting for contract mobilisation money to be released to them for work to start, but were told that Hon. Philip Dasun Peter, House member, representing Pankshin North at the state assembly intimated Hon. John Damap to kindly give the construction of the Kor Bridge to his uncle, Mr James Dasun, Prince Sekat who is the son of the soil having heard about the moves, put a call to Mr Chairman and beg him to allow Kor Community to handle the contract themselves and having agreed to Prince Sekat on phone, the Chairman secretly awarded the contract to Mr James Dasun who is not a construction expert but because he received an order from above as claimed, Mr James Dasun started the work around November 2019 without buying anything apart from 10 bags of cement, no rots, the stones he used to patch the Bridge is in abundance in Kor, there is no need of buying building sand because ismt is very much available under the Bridge.

The Kor Bridge was not re-enforce or expand as plan but patched with stone work as if it is a crack building or a soaked away.
To worse it, the very Bridge claimed to be renovated have since developed the worse problem than before as the original plan of reenforcement and expansion was not done on the Bridge.
The contractor was at the bridge recently to patch the other side of the bridge which falls down not too long ago.

We want to call on the Sir John Damap led administration in Pankshin Local Government to remove Kor Bridge among his achievements as the bridge is yet to be renovated even though money meant for the renovation have been totally released and shared

The Kor Patriotic Front calls on Sir John Damap to as a matter of urgency arrest the contractor and the supervising unit of the Council to return the money approved for the renovation of Kor Bridge to be rewarded to a competent contractor for posterity to be fair to him.

Thank you..

PLATEAU STATE PDP CRISIS:HOW GOV. ORTOM WAS DUPED OF TEN MILLION NAIRA

PLATEAU STATE PDP CRISES

HOW GOV ORTOM WAS DUPED OF TEN MILLION NAIRA

Details are beginning to emerge about how some prominent leaders within the Plateau state chapter of the PDP connived with some National officers and tricked Gov Samuel Ortom into parting away with the sum of ten million naira (N10,000,000) dubiously.

Gov Ortom was convinced to donate the funds for the smooth take off of the Sen Suleman Adokwe led State Caretaker Committee, who were constituted and publicly given a three (3) months mandate to resolve all pending issues, reconcile all warring sides of the party in Plateau state preparatory to a credible State Congress.

Unknown to the Benue State governor, the charlatans involved in the dubious arrangement meant to lure and defraud him.

Some of the party chieftains had assured him of executing his recommendations by actually constituting and sending the State Caretaker Committee but unknown to him plans had been perfected with some elements within the state chapter for the Caretaker Committee to last for only 2 days. Yet the governor was asked to assist with logistics since the Caretaker Committee has three months to execute resolutions of all crises, reconciliation and their other mandate.

When the governor placed a call on the Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee Sen Suleman Adokwe, he assured the Governor that he was already in Jos and prepared for the assignment.

The governor therefore send the logistics as promised. Later he reportedly became very furious when information filtered to him that the state congress was staged in the state but that prominent leaders including Sen JT Useini, Sen Mantu, Amb Tapgun, Chief DT Sango, Hon M.I Azi and 40 aspirants all shunned the gathering.

The governor is reported to have expressed utmost disappointment and told some national officers of the party that he will hands off his efforts to resolve all the crises bedeviling the states in the North Central zone.

It has also been revealed that funds raised to conduct the ill-fated Congresses were also generated from unsuspecting aspirants to public offices in 2023.

The caretaker committee members are said to have been given bribes to ensure the emergence of certain people by any means but some members of the Caretaker Committee declined the offer hence they tendered resignation letters which was made public.

With the litigations that has bedeviled the party and the uneasy calm in the state, there are fears that the party is already set on the path of loss again in 2023 unless credible congresses is staged.

Meanwhile on the up coming Southern Senatorial District bye elections, a non-challant attitude is being observed from a critical section of the party in the zone towards the candidate himself and the elections in general.

Also, notwithstanding the desperate antics of certain ethnocentrists on the Plateau,no particular ethnic group is capable to winning elections except with the active support of the others, this has been proven severally in the past. The rumours making the rounds is that the same people who failed in the self-succession drive in 2015 are manipulating the party congresses in order to grab the gubernatorial seat either directly or indirectly (if there’s resistance). This explains the desperation of a key leader of the northern zone extraction who has been telling his people that they are the Tivs of Plateau State, therefore the 2023 PDP gubernatorial ticket is never for zoning. He has been saying now that all the zones have produced occupants of Little Rayfield, so any zone can produce the state governor come 2023. Definitely this is completely against popular opinion on the Plateau and this could lead to another catastrophic failure for PDP as the state overwhelmingly favours Plateau central zone to produce the next governor.

In many days ahead, several things will surely be unveiled.
