The presidency under the Federal Government Special Works Selection Committee, is set to employ 17, 000 unskilled workers in Plateau State.
This was disclosed on Tuesday in Jos by the Chairman coordinating Plateau, Hon. Rufus Bature.
It would be recalled that the Minister of State Labour and Employment, Bar. Festus Keyamo, had inaugurated a 20 man committee for selecting the unemployed in each State.
Keyamo had said that the program which was approved by President Buhari, is aimed principally to recruit 1000 itinerant unskilled workers in all the 774 local government areas in the in Nigeria.
However Bature said the decision to employ the unemployed was reached at by an inter-ministerial committee at the National level headed by the Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
According to him: “My committee is saddled the responsibility of identifying and recruiting those to be engaged under the programme. The committee is to among other things saddled with the responsibility of identifying public works to be executed in each of the 17 LGA’s.
“This would be in addition to projects already identified by the Federal Ministries Agencies and Parastatals in different localities across the State”, Bature said.
Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN deployed at BISICHI Area Command of Barkin Ladi Plateau have rearrested another escaped Prisoner, Mallam Adam Yusuf, one of the 6 notorious inmates that escaped at High Court Barkin Ladi on 23 July 2020.
It would be recalled that OPSH following a manhunt operation that was launched had earlier rearrested Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim, one of the escapees and had since handed him over to Nigerian Correctional Service Plateau State, bringing the total rearrested into 2.
The latest arrest by the troops was made in an abandoned house at Bisichi Village of Barkin Ladi Plateau State at about 1530Hrs today 18 August 2020.
The 19 years old inmate have confessed to be among the escapees. It is pertinent to stress that concerted efforts are ongoing to rearrest the remaining. Information that may lead to the rearrest of the remaining inmates are therefore solicited from the members of the general public.
The rearrested criminal will be handed over to the Nigerian Correctional Service Plateau State Command for necessary action.

Late Mama was indeed a shining example of a Virtuous, Loving, Accommodating, Patient, calm, respectful and caring Wife/mother/ Grand mother .
I am deeply saddened by the news of her death.
But we must all find solace that Mama died peacefully and now resting with her Lord

The Berom Educational and Cultural Organisation (BECO), has learnt through the social media, of an exclusive invitation extended to the Leadership of the Jol Community Development Association, from the office of the Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Program.
The invitation, we are told, is in reaction to the complaint raised by the community, on the reckless, insensitive and illegal naming of a primary school by the federal government, in Rankun Community of Jol ward in Riyom District, the action which is exclusively outside the purview of the federal government.
We would have not hesitated applauding the action of the government in its direction, given the prompt response to the issues raised by the Jol Community. But we are however constrained by the followings;
From experience of past and very recent events, invitations by government to our people, have sadly, unfortunately and unbelievably turned out to be a lethal set-up for unsuspecting autochthonous nationalities. It’s recall that not long after the invasion of Kombul in Mangu LGA, some of our leaders were tricked via an invitation to attend a security meeting in the governor’s office, Jos. There, at the meeting some of them were arrested, ferried to Abuja, on the orders of the Governor. Two of them, namely the chairpersons of the PYC, for Riyom and Barkin Ladi were arraingned before a Jos magistrate court. We will not be surprised if this is another evil device in the same direction. BECO hereby cautions the authorities to demonstrate respect for due process in the conduct of the meeting, in such a way and manner that participants are guaranteed freedom and unrestricted atmosphere of expression.
By not having the venue of the said meeting in Jos or any other locality within easy reach for our people, the federal authorities seem to have deliberately set the stage for the deliberate economic ruination of our people. Transportation, accommodation and feeding in Abuja, is not within easy and affordable reach of these poor villagers, whose source of livelihood has repeatedly been truncated by attacks and dislocation from Fulani terrorists, now illegal occupants of the land. We are not surprised at this show of seeming and subtle heartlessness, though we remain very much sad that it should be so.
BECO therefore, cautions against any form of intimidation, forcef and or, any unorthodox means of manipulation to extract favourable confessions, from our people. The people must be allowed into the venue of the meeting with their legal representation, as enshrined in the constitution. This is because we are not contesting the powers of the federal government to site a primary school in our domain. If anything at all, we are grateful for the kind gesture. We are only taken aback that the federal government will act in utter lawlessness, by naming primary schools, which is the responsibility of the state and local governments.
We don’t want to accept that in naming the school after a leader of a band of murderous and land- grabbing terrorists, government is deliberately legitimising these very acts.
The Northern Governors Forum has joined other Nigerians as well as the family of former military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida to rejoice with him on his 79th birthday.
In a message of felicitation, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong described the elder statesman as a loyal and patriotic Nigerian leader who has continued to serve the nation with passion.
Lalong said General Ibrahim Babangida over the years has made sacrifices towards the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria and also impacted the political landscape by offering wise counsel particularly on critical national issues.
He said “as you clock 79, we cannot forget your contributions to the human and infrastructural development of Nigeria as well as in mentoring of many persons who are today serving Nigeria in different areas”.
Lalong said as a Forum, the Northern Governors shall continue to benefit from his wealth of experience in tackling some of the challenges facing the region.
He urged General Babangida not to be tired of availing the nation his reservoir of knowledge for the progress of the country.
The Northern Governors wish him good health, God’s divine protection and personal fulfilment.

NORTHERN GOVERNORS MOURN WILBERFORCE JUTA, FORMER GONGOLA STATE GOVERNOR.
Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong has expressed sadness over the death of the Former Governor of defunct Gongola State and former High Commissioner of Nigeria to Zimbabwe, Wilberforce Juta.
Governor Lalong in a message on behalf of the Forum described the late Governor as a politician who served his people with loyalty and courage.
Lalong said the deceased contributed immensely to the development of the defunct Gongola State particularly in the areas of education and human capital development during his term as Deputy Governor from 1979 and then Governor in 1983.
He commiserated with his family, friends and political associates as well as the entire people and Governments of Adamawa and Taraba States.
He also prayed God to grant his soul rest and comfort the family.

RT HON GAGDI VISITS MOTHER, KAFI, PANKWAL BOGGHOM, AS HE JOINS RT HON YIPMONG TO FELICITATE WITH THE NEWLY TURBANED SARKIN JARMAI AND PANKWAL BAGYAR
It was a very busy weekend for Rt Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, the member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, as he undertook courtesy and condolence visits to his constituents.
The federal lawmaker, in company of his colleague representing Alkaleri/Kirfi federal constituency of Bauchi State, Rt Hon Musa Mohammed Pali who was also a former Deputy Speaker in Bauch State House of Assembly and two other friends, was earlier yesterday at his village of Gum in Kanam LGA where he visited his mother to receive her blessings, after which he paid a condolence visit to his brother, Isiaka Garba Birni (Barrister) who earlier lost his younger brother at the Jos University Teaching Hospital after he was knocked down by Dangote trailer in Kogi state.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and admonished the family to accept the death of their loved one as predestined by God, and not to hold any grudges against the driver who knocked him down in an accident that later claimed his life.
The lawmaker was at the residence of Baba Ibrahim Kafi, a Former Executive Secratary of Plateau State Christian Pilgrim Board who was recently abducted by kidnappers and released after some days at the criminals’ den. The lawmaker appreciated God for the safe release of the elder and encouraged him to be strong, even as he continues to touch people’s lives positively.
Gagdi bemoaned the rising spate of kidnappings in the locality and advised people to be vigilant and report suspicious people within their domains. He promise as a Chairman of an Armed Forces Committee in the National Assembly to do something urgently about insecurity problems in PKK.
The lawmaker, with his entourage was at the Palace of the Pankwal Bogghom in Namaran to pay homage to the royal father, after which he was joined by his brother and political ally, the Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Saleh Shehu Yipmong to pay homage to the newly turbaned Sarkin Jarmai and Pankwal Bagyar, who were coronated that day.
At the palaces of the two newly coronated ward heads, the federal lawmaker made donations on behalf of the two dignitaries and as well reiterated his commitment to provide people centered representation in constant consultation with the traditional institutions where the dividend will continue to be felt across the entirety of the constituency.
The entourage after which drove to Dengi where they appreciated their various supporters for regarding the two of them as different parts of the same coin.
The movement of the two political gladiators continues to wax stronger, despite activities of marchants of disunity who have been trying to cause rift between them.
The synergy between the two most powerful political office holders in Kanam local government area, under the guidance of Dr SMG Mohammad has continued to breed good tidings to the people the area, which development has not gone down well with their political detractors, hence their unsuccessful efforts to sow apple of discord between them.
Kanam Local Government Areas will be better with cooperation and unity between Gagdi and Yipmong, and more human and physical development await the people with their continues synergy.
Operatives of the Plateau State Security Outfit, Operation Rainbow have cracked down on a notorious illicit drug peddling market located within the premises of Government Secondary School Gangare in Jos North Local Government Area.
The raid which lead to the arrest of sixteen persons involved in the illicit drug business was said to have been carried out at about 6pm Nigerian time.
According to reports the illicit drug market operates daily within the facilities of GSS Gangare attracting buyers and sellers from other parts of the city thereby posing threats to lives and property of innocent citizens around Gangare and environs.
DSP Ajik Ezekiel Azi of the Operation Rainbow who lead the operation with support of the Neighborhood watch and Vigilante’ Nigeria said they acted on credible information that daily within the hours of 6-9pm,drug and other related activities take place within the GSS Gangare premises which has become a sort of a market patronized by those on foot,motorcycles and even cars.
He said it was a successful operation when Operation Rainbow swooped in on them which lead to the arrests.
While parading them at the Headquarters of Operation Rainbow in Jos,DSP Ajik said their details have been taken and liaison is ongoing to transfer them to relevant authorities who will carry on further investigations.
He added that among the sixteen arrested, one was found with an ID Card belonging to the Nigerian Army claiming he was a dismissed and now recalled soldier who once served in Borno State.
Also speaking, Permanent Secretary Cabinet and Special Services, Cornelius Shiolbial who oversee’s Operation Rainbow said the outfit will continue to partner communities with its community approach strategy to rid the state of such acts.
He regretted that youths have taken to drug business endangering their lives and that of others but was quick to say the the outfit has been repositioned in terms of collaboration with sister agencies for the overall safety of citizens and called on all to avail the Security Outfit of information at all times.
At the time of filing this report, the suspects had been paraded with drugs seized and motorcycles used.
Fifteen of them have been handed over the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency while the suspect arrested with Military identity card has been handed over to the Department of State Services for further investigation.

PROF. DAME NORA LADI DADUUT AND THE CALL FOR WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS (Part One)

At different levels, women participation in leadership has been grossly minimal. Women are underrepresented as voters, as well as in leading positions, whether in elected office, the civil service, the private sector or academia. This occurs despite their proven abilities as leaders and agents of change, and their right to participate equally in democratic governance.
The exclusion of women in politics has been identified in recent times as one of the major setbacks for economic development. Women’s groups are a strong pillar for grassroots politics; and a drive for more women participating in politics at the grassroots still faces a lot of challenges, making it difficult for them to harness available opportunities for economic development.
Thus, the opportunity therein for more women participation in politics and women empowerment is yet to be exploited by the women in Nigeria.
There have been so many protocols, conventions, amendments of the Nigerian Constitution, which support providing a quota system, but in reality, women are excluded in politics. In 2016, a Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill was tabled, calling for the adoption of Temporary Special Measures to eliminate discrimination in political and public life. On the Plateau, women like Paulin Tallen have taken the bull by the horn to against all odds survived the men dominated political space with several other women like Eunice Ayisa Sambo also coming up to take the challenge to offer good leadership from the female gender.
It is said that good leaders are made, not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never-ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience (Jago, 1982).
In her decision to lead the good people of Southern Plateau Senatorial Zone, Prof. Dame Nora Ladi Daduut, haven been outstanding in all her endeavor and within a very short time she has set a standard that is indeed a testament that the people are supreme.
Prof. Nora Daduut a professor of French was born on 10th May, 1953 to the royal family of the Chief of Kwalla, late Musa Shalong Kepuoe and Bibiana Nada in Qu’an-Pan L.G. C of Plateau state. She has made an outstanding mark in the academia and in her service to the civil service at all level, her impact however, has been felt far and wide through her Non-Governmental Organisation (Society for Community Concerns) through which she has executed several programs in Plateau State including water and sanitation hygiene, adult education and among others, agricultural training through community mobilization and participation, a globally recommended model for sustainable development.
Coming to represent the good people of Plateau South Senatorial Zone at the senate chambers is indeed a call Prof. Dame Ladi Daduut has answered to use the instrumentality of law making for greater community impact.
