GROUP LAUDS GOVERNOR SIMON BAKO LALONG’S SITTING OF PLASU TEACHING HOSPITAL, ADVISES FURTHER ON IT’S LOCATION

OUR OFFICIAL POSITION ON PLASU TEACHING HOSPITAL:

Plateau Our Heritage (POH) Lauds Establishment of Potato Lab, Calls for Reversal of Location of PLASU Teaching Hospital

Following the decision by the Plateau government to invest in the agricultural sector of the economy, a group, Plateau, Our Heritage, POH, has lauded the government policy.

The group stressed that since Plateau State was an agrarian State there was need for more investment in the sector urging further for priority attention to be given to the education sector to turn the fortunes of the State through reducing the level of illiteracy in the state.

The Plateau Our Heritage said it was delighted with the news of the completion of the Potato Tissue Culture Laboratory situated in Mangu LGA.

It said it was a timely project aimed at achieving the diversification of the economy making agriculture the main stay and reducing overdependence on oil.

The adaptability test carried out in 8 Local Government Areas that were hitherto considered not suitable for potato production is also an added advantage to the State as production will increase significantly since all the 17 LGAs can now produce the product which is consumed locally and nationally.

As a group, we call on the Government of Plateau State to invest considerably well in the agricultural and education sector as they have the propensity of not only stimulating but growing and transforming the economy of the State.

On the other hand, while we laud the decision of government to build a Teaching Hospital for the State only university PLASU, we received with mixed feelings the location in Shendam LGA.

Though government is at will on where to site projects and Institutions where it deemed fit, the decision of the University Teaching Hospital has generated controversy considering the distance from the State University.

We call on the listening government to reconsider such decision as both Bokkos & Barkin Ladi Hospitals are centrally located and can be upgraded to accommodate the Plateau State University Hospital.

The collective interest of the people and proximity to the University should be considered in the decision of where to locate the proposed Teaching Hospital to benefit majority of the people.

The distance between Plateau State University (PLASU) Bokkos to the proposed Teaching Hospital in Shendam LGA may not enable it achieve its objective.

It will be a welcomed idea if government establishes a second State University of Science and Technology or Education in Shendam LGA. Plateau State is endowed with great science and technological potentials, harnessing same will do the State good.

We want to admonish government to invest considerably well in education and give greater attention to existing institutions in the State in terms of infrastructural development, manpower and qualitative education.

As a group, we assure the government of our continued support and goodwill and will continue to contribute our quota to the unity, peace, prosperity, growth and development of the State.

PLATEAU STATE GOVERNMENT RE-ACTIVATES BARC FARM AS GOVERNOR LALONG VISITS FARM

PRESS STATEMENT

PLATEAU RE-ACTIVATES BARC FARM AS GOVERNOR LALONG VISITS FARM

Plateau State has commenced its post-COVID-19 economic recovery plan with the re-acquistion of the Brewery Agro Research Company (BARC) Farms in Zallaki Village in Bassa Local Government.
To begin the process of making the moribund farm functional, Governor Simon Lalong and members of his cabinet visited the farm on Saturday 13th June 2020 to flag off the allocation of one thousand hectares to members of All Farmers Association, interested civil servants, pensioners, political office holders and members of the host community under a temporary arrangement.
Governor Lalong said the re-acquisition of BARC Farms was a very bold step to return the pride of Plateau State and create jobs by reviving commercial agriculture which the farm was reputed for.
He said, “In its days of glory, the farm was into cultivation of dry and irrigated crops such as grain, vegetable and tree crops; cattle ranches; poultry farms with parent and hatchery units; Piggery-rearing of pigs; Abattoir for poultry, pigs and cattle; as well as operated a big dam for fishery”.
He said so far, the Government has paid one billion naira for the re-acquisition of BARC Farm shares, representing about 70 percent of the total sum, and hoping to complete the balance before the end of the year.
He expressed hope that at the long run, the Farm which has potential for occupying over 30% to 40% share of the Agro-allied market in Nigeria, will leverage on its existing structures to cultivate crops that the State has comparative advantage in.
Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Hosea Finangwai said Government was aware of the concerns about security and the deplorable road infrastructure leading to the farm and is already taking steps to address those fears to re-assure the farmers of their safety and investment.
Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Mr. Abe Mark Aku and the General Manager, Plateau Investments and Properties Company Mr. Chrys Yilzak adviced the people of Plateau State especially civil servants to support the Governor by embracing farming so as to create other sources of income particularly at this time when COVID-19 has greatly impacted the State’s resources.
The Governor also presented letters of offer, fertilisers and other other farm inputs before ploughing one of the plots.

DEMOCRACY DAY CELEBRATION:HON. TAMWAKAT WELI FELICITATES WITH GOVERNOR LALONG AND ALL PLATEAU CITIZENS

JUNE 12, 2020 DEMOCRACY DAY GOODWILL MESSAGE
By the Hon. Commissioner of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality felicitates with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR and his Cabinet, fellow Nigerians, and the peace loving people of Plateau State, as we mark this year’s Democracy day. We salute and congratulate specially the leader of the Rescue Team, Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Tourism Advocate Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Simon Bako Lalong on the occasion of this year’s Democracy Day celebrations and ONE YEAR in office of the second tenure.
The TOURISM INDUSTRY in Plateau State is indeed blessed and appreciative to have you piloting the affairs of the State as you have changed the narrative that placed the industry on the front burner. We can proudly and make bold the claim that you have done more for the industry in the State than any other administration in recent times.
Under your able leadership, Peace and its sustenance have been focal to the State which are basic ingredients for the promotion of Tourism. The Jos Carnival came into being, thus opening up the State and debunking claims that the State was unsafe to visitors. Despite the lean Economic resources of the State, you hosted the first ever Tourism Conference to chart a course for the development of the Tourism Industry of the State; one of the main outcomes of the conference was the declaration of the “State of Emergency” on the sector. To match your words with action, you approved the development of the 1st Tourism Policy, which has since been adopted by the State Executive Council and copies are now ready for circulation. Also, you approved the hosting of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST 2020) which will further open up the State and showcase the vast potentials and cultural endowments to the world; this demonstrates your Love for the State and the key role Tourism has in the Socio-economic development of a State like ours. The selection of the sector as one of the pillars for the economic revival of the State indicates the seriousness and heights you are taking the Tourism Industry in Plateau State. Your dogged and resilient efforts and commitment to reposition the industry will surely bear good fruits for the survival and growth of the State, as Tourism is our oil, sustainer and life-line.
As quoted in your speech during the Tourism Conference
“No responsible Government can afford to let the economic potential of the Tourism Industry to remain fallow for a sector that is one of the world’s biggest industries. My administration is therefore, determined to position Plateau State in its rightful place in accordance with its appellation Home of peace and tourism, this distinction shared by no other in Nigeria”.
For these and many other achievements unmentioned, we wish to applaud you for the successes so far recorded and appreciate your efforts in making Plateau State a Tourism Haven.
Accept our hearty congratulations and appreciation as you pilot the State to Higher Heights to the Admiration of the world.

TAMWAKAT WELI
