OPSH REGRETS THE UNFORTUNATE DEATH OF CIVILIAN ON 12 MAY 2020
Operation SAFE HAVE HAVEN regrets the unfortunate death of a civilian by name Mr Rinji Peter Bala by its personnel.
At about 10pm on 12 May 2020, information was received on the activities of suspected armed robbers and cultists operating around No 18th Street, Jos South LGA of Plateau State. The report revealed that the criminals took advantage of the lockdown and curfew to perpetrate crimes. Consequently, Sector 1 patrol troops of OPSH swiftly responded and arrested 7 suspects, which were immediately moved to the Headquarters Sector 1 for preliminary investigation. Thereafter, 5 out of the 7 suspects were cleared and asked to leave the premises. Unfortunately as they were leaving the premises, one of the personnel on sentry duty mistook them for escaping suspects. Thus opened fire on them, which led to the death of Mr Rinji Bala.
However, a thorough investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile the MOPOL personnel involved in the incident has been arrested and detained accordingly.
Operation SAFE HAVEN has condemned the sad incident. Representative of OPSH has also visited the parents of the deceased to commiserate with them. OPSH also assures the general public of justice.

NORTHERN GOVERNORS FORUM CONGRATULATES NEW CHIEF OF STAFF, PROF. GAMBARI.
The Northern Governors Forum has congratulated Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, over his appointment as the new Chief of Staff by President Muhammadu Buhari. In a congratulatory message, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong described the appointment of the accomplished diplomat and Administrator as most deserving and timely. Lalong said, “We are delighted with this opportunity that Mr. President has given Prof. Gambari to serve the nation. The Professor comes into the job with huge experience and knowledge on governance and service, which we believe will enable him perform well. As Northern Governors, we assure him of our support and prayers as he takes on this very important role”. The Governors also commended the President for his choice of Prof. Ibrahim Gambari as his new Chief of Staff, saying his vast knowledge in administration both at home and abroad will assist the President in delivering on his campaign promises to Nigerians.

It is a case of extra-judicial killing – Community
Hwolshe Community in Jos South LGA, Plateau State has been thrown into mourning following the alleged killing of a promising 20 year old undergraduate of the University of Jos, Mr. Rinji Peter Bala popularly known as ‘Bobo’ by suspected men of Sector 1 Zaria Road Jos, Plateau State.
Late Rinji Peter and his 6 Friends were said to be walking in their community around 6:30-7:00pm on Tuesday 12th May, 2020 when they were arrested by the vigilante/neighbourhood watch in the area who handed them over to the Soldiers situated around 8th Street Lounge having mistaken them for suspected criminal elements.
The 7 youths were later transferred to sector 1 of the Operation Safe Haven situated at Zaria Road where they were released when nothing incriminating was found on them only to be allegedly shot at while leaving the premises of the Sector Command after being beaten severely which led to the killing of one according to one of the survivor and witness.
The corpse of the deceased was later found lying dead in the pool of his blood at the gate of the Sector Command by his family Members who went to check the situation.
At the time of filing this report, the case has been reported to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Plateau State Police Command.
Members of the community frowned at the action of the Soldier who allegedly killed Late Rinji describing it as an extra-judicial killing.
According to reaching Freelance Reporters Online News says that One Lengshak Ayuba from Yimtul and Timothy Reldi from mile-8 in Pankshin Local Government Area, who came from Ilorin Kwara state and arrested on the 29-4-2020 and quarantine at the NYSC orientation camp Mangu, escaped from the Isolation center after spending three days.
Similarly, one Ali Dabes from Abwor-Dyis also from Pankshin Local Government Area who came from Suleja, Niger state was arrested on the 21-4-2020 and quarantine at the NYSC orientation Camp Mangu also escaped from the isolation center after spending 14 days at the Camp. His sample was taken but could not wait for his final result.
The general public should take note and be vigilant, particularly those living around the above mentioned communities to report such persons to the operatives of COVID-19 in other to help Government to curb community transmission, as government is doing everything possible to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Divine Mandate Administration in Quaan-Pan Local Government of Plateau State, under the leadership of Hon. Isaac Kyale Kwallu, FCIA, FCIPMA, has provided succour to the people of the locality, as a gesture towards extenuating the impact of Corona Virus (COVID-19) global pandemic.
Hon. Kwallu, while distributing the items at the Local Government Secretariat, Baap; explained that the Foodstuffs will be distributed across the…Polling Units in the locality.
Represented by the Deputy Chairman Hon. Abdulmalik Haruna Yusuf, disclosed that the Council has procured 1,000 bags of rice, 2,000 bags of Maize Flour, 200 bags of Millet, 25 bags of Sugar, 200 cartons of Maggi Seasoning and 1,500 bags of Improved Variety of Maize Seeds
The Executive Chairman said, “There was every need to help farmers with Maize Seeds as a means of mitigating the looming food crisis, due to the Corona Virus Pandemic.”
The Chairman expressed optimism that the Foodstuff will cushion the effects of COVID-19 Pandemic.
He added that the Divine Mandate Administration will continue to collaborate with the State and Federal Governments in the efforts towards combating COVID-19 global pandemic.
On behalf of the Quality and Progressive people of Quaan-Pan LGA, the Long Pan and Chairman Traditional Council, Nda Emmanuel Dabang, represented by the District Head of Kwa Miskagam Ignatius Didel (JP), thanked the Executive Chairman, Hon. Isaac Kyale Kwallu FCIA, FCIPMA, for their avowed commitment towards enhancing the welfare of the people.
The Paramount Ruler extolled the virtues of Hon. Kwallu and his Cabinet, saying; “It takes a leader with large heart, to serve the people selflessly, demonstrated by the leader of the Divine Mandate.”
He prayed God to bless the present administration and heal the world from the dreaded Virus COVID-19.
Plateau Bloggers & Online Media Association Celebrates Dr. Chris Kwaja on His Birthday
As Hon. Chris Kwaja, Ph.D celebrates his Birthday today, the Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association has described him as an icon of hope to the younger generation considering his strategic mentorship roles and commitment to youth development.
The group said the birthday presents another opportunity to celebrate.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the group, Mr. Makut Alfred Mashat wished Dr. Chris Kwaja divine wisdom and capacity to carry on with his greater impact to humanity and the world at large.
The group said the roles played by Dr. Kwaja and his immense contribution to national unity, peace, harmonious living, prosperity and development are very visible.

Ambassador Gambari, a Nigerian scholar-diplomat, was the first Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Africa (1999-2005). In that capacity, he worked closely with heads of government, key policy makers as well as institutions on the continent to develop the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
During this period, he was concurrently the Resident Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission to Angola (2002-2003). He has been a delegate to the Assembly of the African Union as a national delegate (1984-1985) and as a member of the UN Secretary-General’s delegation (2000-2012).
Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari, is currently the Founder/Chairman of Savannah Center External link in Abuja, Nigeria, a think-tank for research, training and public policy debate on the nexus between diplomacy (conflict resolution), democracy and development in Africa.
His last assignment at the United Nations was as the Joint Special Representative of the Secretary General and Chairperson of the African Union Commission/Head of the UN and AU Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) from January 2010 to July 2012. During Ambassador Gambari’s tenure, UNAMID was the world’s largest international peacekeeping mission.
Ambassador Gambari has held several leadership positions at the national, regional and international levels and has built extensive contacts with governments as well as public and private institutions, especially in Africa. He was the Chairman of the United Nations Special Committee Against Apartheid (1990-1994) during which he worked closely with African governments to coordinate UN policy to eradicate apartheid, thereby building trust and confidence with governments and policymakers in member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
At the global level, Ambassador Gambari was Under-Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (2005-2007). In that period, he also operated as UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Cyprus, Zimbabwe and Myanmar. On May 22, 2007, the Secretary-General entrusted him with the Good Offices Mandate on Myanmar. He was also appointed in 2007 by the Secretary-General as Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Iraq Compact and Other Issues, positions he held until 2009.
Before joining the United Nations, he served his country as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations (1990-1999). He was also Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria (1984-1985) and worked closely with regional leaders, institutions and governments, particularly within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the economic and political development of the sub-region. Prior to this, he was the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.
As a scholar, Ambassador Gambari is the author of several books and scholarly articles. He began his teaching career as a Lecturer at the Queen’s College, City University of New York (1969-1974), followed by an Assistant Professorship at the State University of New York (1974-1977). Upon returning to Nigeria, he was appointed Senior Lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, (1977-1980), and rose to become an Associate Professor (Reader), (1980-1983) and subsequently full Professor at the same University (1983 –present–currently on leave of absence). Ambassador Gambari was a visiting Professor at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of the Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University and Howard University in Washington, D.C. from 1986 to 1989. Ambassador Gambari was also a Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C., as well as a Resident Scholar with the Rockefeller Foundation Centre in Bellagio, Italy.
A recipient of the third highest national honour, Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFR), Ambassador Gambari has also been awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters (honoris causa) form the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut (2002) and Farleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey (2006). Others include: Honorary Doctorate of Public Service, Chatham University (May 2008) and Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt), University of Ibadan, Nigeria (November 2011). He has also received the Special Recognition for International Development and Diplomacy Award conferred by the Africa-America Institute (September 2007), the Distinguished (Foreign) Service Award by the Federal Government of Nigeria (April 2008), the International House Harry Edmonds Award for Lifetime Achievement, New York (May 2009) and the Campaign Against Genocide Medal by the Republic of Rwanda (July 2010).
Ambassador Gambari received South Africa’s highest national honour conferred on non-citizens, the Order of the Companions of O. R. Tambo, which was conferred to him personally by President Jacob Zuma on October 26, 2012. Professor Gambari was elected to the Johns Hopkins University Society of Scholars in 2002 and has since 2005 served as a member of the International Advisory Board of the Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance at Africa University, Zimbabwe. He was appointed as First Chancellor, Kwara State University in Nigeria, March 2013.
