Plateau Youths Stakeholders for Peace have reaffirmed their support for Governor Simon Lalong’s peace building efforts that ensured relative peace for the past 6 years until the recent disruption by enemies of the State.
The Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), in a statement signed by their Coordinator, Bar Steve Gyang, further commended the Governor for the proactive measures to nip the conflict in the bud.
In simultaneous meetings which held in headquarters of the three Senatorial Zones, the stakeholders commended Plateau House of Assembly for unanimously giving a resounding pass mark for meeting up with the resolutions of the Assembly.
It would be recalled that Hon. Philip Dasun, Chairman House Committee on information, in a press conference at the Assembly complex on Thursday, said the reasons why the Assembly Members gave Governor Lalong kudos for vigorously taking steps to normalcy in record time by “meeting five out of the six resolutions of the Assembly. “
The stakeholders also commended the good people of the state for resisting conflict merchants who planned to exploit the conflict to promote total breakdown of law and order for political gains.
They commended the Governor for
the improvement of security situation in the state by engaging the security operatives, arrest of perpetrators to face justice and the anti land grabbing law.
According to the NGO, “the plan to discredit the populist government of Gov Simon Lalong, has been uncovered and will soon be exposed if such detractors do not retract their steps.”
They further commended the peaceful conduct of Local Government party primaries elections as well as congresses at the ward and local government levels.
They alerted citizens of plans by political loosers to plunge the state into breakdown of law and order aimed at truncating the forthcoming Local Government elections.
According to the coordinator, ” our peace loving people must rise up and resist and be on the alert to foil these frustrate politicians whose agenda to infiltrate the Plateau State House of Assembly has failed woefully.”
They called on security agencies to investigate the perpetrators and bring them to book.

MY HEART BLEEDS OVER THE DEATH OF HON DAN DUL, SAYS SEN DIMKA

The death of the former chairman of Lanftang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Hon Chief Dan Dul, has been described as a big loss to the Taroh nation, even as it is a painful exit to his family and friends.

Fondly called Danny Social n his social cycle, the late political office holder was an epitome of humility and courage while he lived on the face of the earth; and making concrete contributions to the development of the community and the state.

I am aware that those who had contacts with you remember encouraging them always to stand up for the truth and not keep it to themselves.

Today you are remembered as the legend of Kumbwang clan, not for the fun of it, but the contributions you made while alive and serving the nation in various areas of human endeavour

It is on account of all your contributions that the loss is the more painful. I wish God to comfort your family, associates and friends to bear the irreparable loss of our friend.

GAGDI TASKS FG TO REDEEM #10 BILLION PLEDGE TO VICTIMS OF PLATEAU ATTACKS, URGENTLY CONDUCT BYELECTION IN JOS NORTH/BASSA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY.

The member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has today, tasked the federal government to make good its #10 billion pledge for the rehabilitation and relocation of victims of Plateau attacks, while charging INEC to conduct by election for the vacant sit of Jos North/Bassa federal Constituency with the view to restoring the voice of the people of the Constituency in the House of Representatives.

In a loaded motion of urgent public importance encompassing 6 prayers, bothering on the recent breach of the peace in Plateau state, the Chairman House Committee on Navy, has called on all humanitarian federal agencies to, as a matter of urgency, send relief materials to the victims of the recent attacks and ensure Plateau state enjoys all benefits accruing to victims of attacks in the northeast.

Haruna Maitala on 2nd April, 2021 as a result of a ghastly auto crash, and wondered why the electoral body is taking longer than necessary to fill the vacant seat, over five months after the demise of the last representative.

He said the vacancy of that seat has reduced the people of the Constituency to Orphans, who have no father to air their grievances, especially at this crisis period, when the people are killed in their numbers by blood thirsty killers.

In another development, Gagdi has presented a report on the bill for an act to establish Nigerian Maritime Trust Fund, a bill sponsored by him, that seeks to reposition the Nigerian Navy for optimum productivity.

7,576 HOUSES DESTROYED, 548 KILLED IN PLATEAU COMMUNITY IN FOUR YEARS — Report

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed 548 people in repeated attacks on Irigwe communities of Bassa local council of Plateau State in four years.

An advocacy group, Stefanos Foundation, which gave the figure in its fact-finding report on attacks on the community, said about 7,576 houses and 5,801 farms were also destroyed between 2018 and 2021.

It added that between July 30 and August 4, 2021, about 70 people were killed and over 250 houses burnt by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Its Programme Coordinator, Mark Lipdo, said the organisation was concerned about labeling Irigwe people as the perpetrator of the recent attacks on 22 travellers without a conclusive investigation or evidence.

“Sadly, these attacks are not peculiar to Irigwe communities or Plateau State alone. This situation is replicated in many communities all over the country.

“Therefore, rather than allowing conflict merchants and trouble makers take advantage of situations like this, we call for a united stand in response to this criminality,” he said.

Speaking, the President of Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Robert Dodo, alleged that there was a plot by “Fulani nihilists” to wipe out Irigwe people from their ancestral land without any intervention by those whose primary responsibility was to protect citizens.

He denied reports that the community had signed a peace accord with the Fulani, noting that the Irigwe people had no grievances against peace loving Fulani people.

Insisting that Irigwe youths were not responsible for the recent attack on 22 travellers along Rukuba road, Dodo accused the police of fueling reprisals that resulted from the unfortunate incident.

GOVERNOR SIMON BAKO LALONG PAYS LAST RESPECT TO LATE UNCLE, COL. MAIGIDA

GOVERNOR LALONG PAYS LAST RESPECT TO LATE UNCLE, COL. MAIGIDA

Governor Simon Bako Lalong, First Lady Regina Lalong and members of his family were in Ny’ak, Ajikamai, Shendam LGA of Plateau State to pay last respects to his late uncle, retired Colonel Martin Maigida who died at the age of 73.

The funeral mass was held at the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Ny’ak where Rev. Fr. Tobias Damen in a homily read from Matthew 25:31-46 and Romans 5:5-11, where he admonished Christians to be focussed on life after death rather than acquiring earthly possessions and positions as everything on earth will pass away.

He reminded the congregation that everyone will stand before God for judgement where he will give account and receive reward according to his deeds. This he said should make people do good and respect humanity and sanctity of life, rather than discriminate and act wickedly against others who are also God’s creation.

Governor Lalong in a tribute described the late Col. Martin Maigida as a fine officer, gentleman and a caring father who served his family with love and gave so much to society, particularly his immediate community, using his training as a health worker and soldier.

He recalled how the late uncle mentored them and stood in for them through generosity, sound counsel and exemplary conduct. This he said spurred many of them to aspire for greatness and also contribute to the society.

Lalong said though they are pained by the loss of the late Colonel Maigida, they are nonetheless comforted by his testimony and good legacies which will remain indelible and a source of inspiration for the younger generation.

Son of the deceased, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida also eulogised his late father describing him as humble, honest, godly, disciplined and patriotic. These attributes he said have been deposited in them and have propelled them towards making impact in the society.

He thanked sympathizers who paid personal visits and sent various messages of commiseration to the family.

The late Colonel Maigida was a Knight of St. Mulumba (KSM).
