SPEAKERSHIP RACE: BETARA,WASE, GAGDI, OTHERS PLAN CONSENSUS CANDIDATE

By Freelance Reporters, Jos

The six agrieved aspirants said they have agreed on consensus candidates.

Some aspirants have resolved to present a consensus candidate to challenge Tajudeen Abbas, the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the seat of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The aspirants, all members of the APC, who have come together as the Coalition of Progressive Speakership Aspirants (COPSA), include Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, Muktar Betara, Sada Soli, Aminu Jaji, Yusuf Gagdi and Miriam Onuoha.

They dropped the hint on the consensus arrangement on Saturday during a meeting with a faction of the minority caucus at the Transcorps Hilton in Abuja.

The G7 met with the minority caucus led by Fred Agbedi, a member of the PDP from Bayelsa.

Mr Soli, while speaking on behalf of the group, said a consensus candidate will be announced very soon, and all the members of the group would support the candidate
He said the lawmakers will not allow the imposition of candidate on the 10th House, adding that their candidates for the two positions will be announced next week.

We have a consensus candidate already – Gagdi
Mr Gagdi, in a statement issued after the meeting, said the group has agreed on consensus candidates for speaker and deputy speaker. However, he did not disclose the names.

“The G7 met with Greater Minority and agreed on consensus candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker but we will not mention the names yet. We reached an agreement based on the best choice of people that will be acceptable to the majority of all parties involved.
We have formed this alliance to resist all attempts by external forces to impose leadership on the 10th House of Representatives. Be rest assured that the next leadership of the House will emerge from us,” he said.

Our medium reported that the APC adopted Mr Abbas and Ben Kalu as speaker and deputy speaker respectively.
The decision of the ruling party has been trailed by protests from other aspirants who have formed the coalition also called the G7 to fight Messrs Abbas and Kalu. However, on Wednesday, the coalition suffered a major setback as Alhassan Doguwa, the current majority leader of the House, pulled out of the race and endorsed Mr Abbas.

MANGU MASSACRE: 20,000 PEOPLE DISPLACED IN 20 VILLAGES AS MORE THAN 125 PEOPLE BURIED IN MASS GRAVE

The National President ,Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) ,
Sir Joseph Gwankat (KSM) Makaman
Panyam, has disclosed that at least no fewer than 20,000 people were displaced in 20 villages of Mangu Local Government Council of Plateau State with over 120 reportedly buried in a mass grave for unprovoked attacked by suspected pastoralists mercenaries employed in neighboring countries of west Africa to fight and grabbed land for future grazing in Middle-Belt States .

MDA President Joseph raised alarm over the influx of foreign mercenaries in Plateau Central villages crossing to the northern parts wrecking havoc by harvesting women and children in late hours of night marauding .

He stated this at Plateau State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists ,NUJ, at the Press centre Jos.

“We are Nigerians. This association is the apex body of our tribe or ethnic nationality. We are located in Plateau State, within the Central Zone of the State and are among
the 56 ethnic nationalities of Plateau State and one of the minority tribes of Nigeria.

Although our people are highly mobile, we do not have any home other than our
ancestral land where we are indigenes.
We are surrounded by other ethnic nationalities of Plateau State and all other ethnic
nationalities of Nigeria including major tribes of Nigeria and tribes of some foreign countries are represented in our land. In a sense we are a miniature Nigeria,he explained .

According to him ,”Our community people are basically farmers; business people and civil servants. We have
a long history of peaceful coexistence with other Nigerians and foreign nationalities.

OUR VALUES, ACTIONS, AND FEARS
we draw inspiration from our cultural values and Nigeria’s constitution which sets values for her citizens. Some of values include among others peace, justice,
dialogue, love, fear of God, hard work, unity, interdependency, education,
accountability, transparency, discipline, truthfulness, rule of law etc. As much as
possible we have taken advantage of all societal agents of socialization to train our children to be patriotic, respect sanctity of life, and observe fundamental human rights of others as well to ensuring that their personal conduct reflects Nigeria’s core values.

Joseph said those who refuse to conform to our national ethos and values are often subjected to prescribed discipline of our National Constitution and other extant laws of the land .
important which we are because our behaviors are largely .
was severally referred as one of the most peaceful Area in Nigeria. We pride
~ourselves as people of peace. As a matter of fact, we have never left our land
In search of perceive enemies to attack and kill them. But enemies of the state
have consistently mobilized themselves at national and sub national level to
come and attack smaller tribes like ours, and by such acts reconfirm the fears
of insecurity and marginalization of minority groups of Nigeria at
independence.

MANAGEMENT OF CONFLICTS IN MWAGHAVUL CHIEFDOM
Conflict is intrinsic to every society including ours. Over the years, however, we have largely leverage on traditional institutions of our communities as well as formal platforms for the management of conflicts, diversity and to dispense
justice. Because we hate violent conflicts, we work towards conflict
transformation and do attribute some of our socio economic and political
progress to the positive and creative management of past conflicts.

It is important to let you know this because; we have a rich community
experience in the management of conflicts and appreciate the place of conflict in the development of our society. Yet we abhor violent conflict. We also have great respect for our cultural and formal institutions, particularly because of their place in ensuring social harmony and building of a progressive society. At
all levels we abhor and sanction dysfunctional behaviors.

CHALLENGES OF MANAGING VIOLENT CONFLICTS BETWEEN FULANIS AND
MWAGHAVUL PEOPLE
We have always managed conflicts between our members and Fulanis in our communities. We facilitate peace with our neighbors by developing trust and
right attitude towards them. The Fulanis living in our communities are
perceived extended members of our families because of our mutually
beneficial economic activities. Besides, our own Fulanis speak Mwaghavul in
addition to adopting some of our cultural ways of life. Out of trust, we buy and
keep our cattle with them. In some cases, we have intermarried with them.
Although cultural ‘integration between us is slow, there is no doubt that some
level of integration is happening. Why should we fight with such a people?
Like in other parts of the state, some forms of ·conflict may occur between
individual herder Fulani men and some individual farmers but such conflicts unity leaders. Never in history did we ever witness violent conflicts between the two communities as we have witnessed in the last two decades.

Although this experience is not unique to us, we wonder why such a beautiful and peaceful relationship is turning sour.
We too have observed the participation of foreign mercenaries in a conflict
with a people we feel obliged to protect. Although it is generally believed the
Fulani violence against us is not unconnected to armed proliferation, we
strongly feel we have never been a thread to them. We have therefore
continued to wander why such a beautiful relationship could turn sour to a point of war where their kinsmen at Continental, National and Sub-national
levels are mobilized with lethal weapons to fight an unjust war against us as a
result of a conflict we can easily resolve on a table or through normal judicial
actions.

The mobilization and involvement of a 45m to some Fulanis worldwide against
individual ethnic nationalities whose populations are only in thousands is not
only unjust but an agenda for ethnic cleansing and land grappling. It is curious to also note the relationship between violent conflicts and solid mineral deposits in minority areas of Nigeria. Although. these postulations may need further investigations to establish the veracity , they have generally increase our fears and suspicions concerning the possibility for a peaceful coexistence
considering the surge of violent conflicts being orchestrated by Fulanis against
us and other minority groups in Plateau state.

The point being made here is that violent conflicts in our land is needless and
may be linked to deep economic interest .The only capital we have left is our
ancestral land: No group is ready to surrender a capital that is basic to survival to any other interest group we won’t either! Those being used to orchestrate violence against us have demonstrated that they have alternative homes, but we don’t.
TWO DECADES OF SPORADIC VIOLENCE AGAINST MWAGHAVUL PEOPLE

Towards the end of December 2014 a violent conflict erupted between our
youths and Fulanis in the Mangu District of our Chiefdom. This follows the
killing of our member whose head was dismembered and the killer traced to a
Fulani man. This was such a painful death. We tried to convince our angry
youths that two wrongs don’t make right. Unfortunately, what started as
violence by one individual against another individual soon turned into a full

blown war between our . . . . communities. Happily the intervention of National Orientation Agency Plateau State Directorate stopped that war. The two communities resolved not to engage themselves in any kind of violence again. What has happened to that history? Why cant we learn from it?

, we want the world to know that what is happening to us can best be
described as genocide. It is systematic and deliberate ethnic cleansing of
minority tribes in Nigeria and we cannot allow this to continue. We are calling
on our people to arise and defend yourselves, your God-giving land and

3) Government should take over full responsibility of educating children
below age 10 children who have lost both parents as a result of this
conflict, while arrangements made for those SS3 students whose WAEC
Exams were disrupted as a consequence of this conflict

4) The State Police has demonstrated low capacity and political will to
secure minority tribes in Nigeria, hence we strongly recommend for
state policing in all states and communities in Nigeria.

5) Security agencies should build synergy with our community people to
secure their families.

The integration of the Vigilantes and hunters
Association into the state Operation Rainbow may assist in information
and proper protection of our people.
6) Government must create a special court to dispense justice between
conflicting communities which will always help in nipping some conflicts
before they escalate.

7) NEMA/SEMA must urgently mobilize resources immediately to address
the situation of the victims and the hosts of the victims.

We wish to encourage our people to remain state fast, firm and
unshakeable in the defence of our land. We have never left our land in the
pursuit of any perceived enemies to attack and kill them but enemies of the
state mobilize themselves at Regional, National and sub-national levels to
attack us. Those who have died have paid the supreme price – May their
souls rest in peace.

ARMY COLONEL RISES OVER ₦‎270M CREDIT ALERT ON hisY SALARY ACCOUNT FROM CBN

By Freelance Reporters, Jos

A senior officer of the Nigerian Army recently received more than one-quarter of a billion naira from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This medium exclusively obtained a copy of the two-page letter written to the Army authority and the screenshot of the N270,000,000 credit alert enclosed as evidence.

Colonel MS (surname and service number withheld) addressed a memo dated April 14, 2023, to the Commandant of the Army War College (WU Bassey Barracks) in Asokoro, Abuja.

Titled “Request For Investigation Into The Payment Of Large Sum of Money Into My Salary Account”, he recalled receiving the money on April 3.

The Colonel’s bank account was credited with N270,000,000 paid through the CBN Alert System (reference number withheld).

The officer explained that he decided to call the attention of his superiors due to the alarming rate of fraud perpetrated in some government institutions.

“Sir, to the best of my knowledge, my emolument is by no way close to the amount paid, and I am not entitled to such payment from the CBN.

“Additionally, going by the current trend of financial fraud and sharp practices by various institutions, this raises alarm and concern for me,” he wrote.

The Colonel urged the Commandant to uncover the motive behind the payment “to formally reverse it to the Federal Government coffers”.

COURT OF APPEAL NEVER DISMISSED HON. YAKUBU SANDA’S APPEAL; GROUP KNOCKS ABOK

COURT OF APPEAL NEVER DISMISSED HON. YAKUBU SANDA’S APPEAL; GROUP KNOCKS ABOK

The attention of the APC Plateau State has been drawn to Fake News report making the rounds on the Social Media platforms that the Court of Appeal sitting in Jos on Friday 19th May, 2023 dismissed the Appeal filed by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Hon. Yakubu Sanda & 12 others, against the controversial Judgment of the High Court of Plateau State of 3rd May, 2023 which purportedly restored to Office the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Hon. Nuhu Abok, even when the said Abok, upon decamping to the PDP, had long ceased to be a Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, since 22nd March 2022, when, by the Votes and Proceedings No. 46 his Jos East State Constituency Seat was declared Vacant, in line with the provisions of Section 109(1)g and (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

For the avoidance of doubt, the Court of Appeal sitting in Jos, on Friday 19th May, 2023, owing to the presence of the Respondents in Court, merely stepped down the Hearing of Motion Ex-parte filed by the Appellants opting instead to hear the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction which the Court Fixed for hearing on Thursday 25th May, 2023, while at the same time directing Parties to maintain the Status Quo.

For the avoidance of doubt, Hon. Yakubu Sanda remains the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly having on 4th May, 2023, immediately after the High Court Judgment of 3rd May, 2023, filed a Notice of Appeal and a Motion for stay of Execution and Injunction to restrain the Judgment Creditors from enforcing the Judgment.

Hon. Abok Nuhu, the former Speaker and now a non-Member and pretended “Speaker of the House” of Assembly can never again be Speaker of the House he has ceased to be a Member of, until (perhaps in the future) he is re-elected as a Member of the House, because Speakership is predicated on  Membership!

It would be recalled that Hon. Abok Nuhu, upon decamping to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ceased to be a Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly when, upon his Letter of resignation being read on the Floor of the House, by the Votes and Proceedings No. 46 of 22nd March 2022, his Seat was declared Vacant by the House in compliance with the provisions of Section 109(1)g and (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Furthermore, it is false to assert, as the PDP has been busy doing, that the Judgment of the High Court in the Case on Appeal, is a Declaratory and not an Executory Judgment. How can a Judgment that granted amongst others, Exemplary Damages against the Defendants in the sum of N20 Million; a Mandatory Injunction against the Clerk and the Plateau State Government to recognize Abok as Speaker and restore to him the privileges of his Office and an Order of Perpetual Injunction against the Defendants / Judgment Debtors be said to be Executory?

No one should be deceived, the status quo which the Court of Appeal ordered to be maintained is that Hon. Yakubu Sanda, remains the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly because he has duly Appealed the judgment and filed a Motion for stay and Injunction against Abok and his co-travellers seeking to restrain them from enforcing the Judgment.

Finally, from the Semi-literate letters and tone of the Fake News Story in circulation, it will surprise no one that the desperate Abok Nuhu himself personally wrote and planted the Story. It should interest the People of Plateau State to know that Abok Nuhu has been, using the record of their past shady financial dealings to blackmail the Clerk of the House who is the Signatory to the House of Assembly Accounts, and has succeeded in having Hundreds of Millions of Naira paid to him (Abok Nuhu) in purported satisfaction of the controversial Judgment Debt, notwithstanding the fact that the Judgment cannot, for now, be enforced through the Courts due to the pendency of the Appeal and Motion for stay and Injunction!

We advise Abok, the non-Member but pretended “Speaker of the House”, not to be in a hurry to spend the money (proceeds of blackmail) so far paid to him by the Clerk of the House, but to warehouse the funds illegally taken from the House Accounts as the day of reckoning is coming! It is in Abok’s own interest to await the decision of the Court of Appeal on 25th May, 2023 when the Motion for Interlocutory Injunction is slated to be heard.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed!

Ambassador Haggai Choji Usseni

IGP CONDEMNS CALLOUS ATTACK ON U.S CONSULATE CONVOY IN ANAMBRA

Orders Prompt, Arrest, Investigation of Culprits, Warns Non-State Actors

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, has condemned in its totality the callous attack on a United States Consulate convoy and the killing and burning beyond recognition of seven (7) persons including US Embassy local staff and Police Mobile Force Officers, and their vehicles, as well as the likely abduction of two (2) others, at Atani Osamale Road, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, who were visiting the area to assess its proneness to erosions as part of their humanitarian efforts.

The IGP, while expressing astonishment at the attack, described it as a clear indication of the attackers’ and/or non-state actors’ callousness and an act of wickedness to humanity, most especially to their kinsmen who have been considered to enjoy aids and palliatives from the attacked diplomats. The act is indeed evil and inhuman.

The IGP has ordered an immediate full-scale investigation into the attacks and has charged the investigative team to ensure the culprits and their sponsors are arrested and brought to book at the earliest possible time. Similarly, the IGP warns all non-state actors to cease their nefarious actions as the Nigeria Police Force, in synergy with other security agencies, will not hesitate to clamp down on them and their sponsors to rid the nation of their unpatriotic and disruptive activities.

In the same vein, the Inspector-General of Police, while commiserating with the US Consulate on the brazen murder and abduction of her local staff, and the families of the officers who paid the supreme price, assures that all hands are on deck to ensure the rescue of those abducted. The IGP while expressing the openness of the NPF to working with all foreign presence in the country to ensure the security of their assets and personnel, assures that the Nigeria Police is committed to the safety and security of all and sundry, including visitors and diplomats within the country.

BARRISTER CALEB MUTFWANG GRIEVES OVER ATTACKS ON FUNGZAI, KUBWAT VILLAGES IN MANGU LGA

Plateau Governor-elect, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has received with rude shock the bloody attack on Fungzai and Kubwat villages in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area.

Among those killed in the Tuesday attack were several persons including women and children.

Mutfwang, in a message of comfort, condemned in totality the attack which also left several persons injured and houses with valuables worth millions of naira destroyed.

He appealed to security agencies to raise up to their constitutional responsibility of protecting and securing citizens, particularly rural dwellers.

The Governor-elect, who is heartbroken over the renewed attacks, urged security agencies to collaborate within the ambit of the law and apprehend the perpetrators to face the full wrath of the law.

He admonished communities to strengthen community relations and activate internal security mechanism such as the vigilante groups and hunters assoc
