EID-EL-FITR: GOVERNOR LALONG GREETS MUSLIMS, URGES MORE PRAYERS FOR PLATEAU STATE AND NIGERIA.

Plateau State Governor and Chairman, Northern Governors Forum, Simon Bako Lalong, has rejoiced with Muslims as they mark another Eid-el-Fitr under unusual conditions occasioned by the Corona virus pandemic.
Lalong who congratulated them for successfully undertaking and concluding the Ramadan fast – thereby fulfilling a very significant injunction of the Islamic Faith, said the period calls for solemn celebrations.
He said “While this year’s Eid-el-Fitr may be celebrated in solemnity and privacy of your homes, the occasion nonetheless presents the opportunity for our Muslim brothers and sisters to reflect on the spiritual benefits accruing from their fasting and prayers, and apply it to their lifestyle for a better society where there is love, peace and tranquility”.
Governor Lalong said the challenges of COVID-19 will remain with us for a long time to come and that is where we shall need lifestyles that are commensurate with the teachings of our faiths as people and Governments work together to assist one another to build a better society.
He appealed to Muslims to continue to cooperate with Government by observing all regulations put in place to curb the spread of Corona Virus by observing social distancing, use of face masks, constantly washing hands and applying sanitizers, avoiding large gatherings and staying at home – particularly now that Plateau State is witnessing community transmission in some areas.
The Governor also enjoined Muslims to reach out to less privileged members of the society and people of other faiths as a way of enhancing bonds of friendship and brotherhood that promotes tolerance, peace and solidarity.
While wishing all Nigerian Muslims Eid Mubarak, Lalong asked them to continue to intensify prayers for the peace and progress of Plateau State and for God to stop the Corona Virus pandemic which has interrupted lifestyles, freedoms and economic prosperity.

The end of a Ramadan fast usher in EID-EL-FITRI celebration.Hon Manji Gontori rejoices with the Muslim community as they break the month long period of fasting.Hon Gontori who issued a press statement in his Jos residence said,”Ramadan is a period of sacrifice and prayer.this year’s Ramadan was done at a difficult time where nations the world over are facing a global health challenge of covid-19.the significance of this spiritual excercise is prayer and I believe that God will heal our land from this ravaging disease”Gontori equally congratulate all the Muslims for coming to the end of their fast and wish them God’s blessings and happy celebrations.

Gontori urge the Muslims not to forget the lessons learn during this Ramadan.he call on his supporters and all Muslims to obey the order by govt’s at different levels where they were urge to pray in their homes in a bid to curtail the spread of Corona virus.

NORTHERN GOVERNORS FORUM CONDOLES WITH SEN. KABIRU GAYA OVER LOSS OF WIFE

Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong has commiserated with Sen. Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya over the death of his wife, Hajiya Halima Gaya.
In a condolence message to Senator Gaya, Governor Lalong described the death of Hajiya Halima as shocking and painful, describing her as a woman who gave her best for the good of the society through investment in education and other philanthropic gestures.
Governor Lalong said “The Northern Governors Forum sends its deep condolences to you and members of your family for this enormous loss which affects all. The late Hajiya Halima committed herself to building the future through the promotion of youth development and women empowerment. She represented the less privileged and promoted their cause at all times’’.
Lalong said though her death creates a huge vacuum in the Gaya family and the society, there is solace in the legacies she left behind which will continue to resonate for a long time.
He urged Senator Gaya, his immediate family and the people of Kano State to accept her death as ordained by God, praying that Allah (SWT) grants them the fortitude to bear this great loss and reward her good deeds with paradise.

GOVERNOR LALONG INAUGURATES STATE COMMUNITY POLICING ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has inaugurated the State Community Policing Advisory Committee as part of the efforts to tackle crime through a bottom-top approach.
The Committee which was set up by the Federal Government through the Inspector General of Police is to begin the process of implementing Community Policing in the State.
While inaugurating the Committee, Governor Simon Lalong said Plateau State has longed for the implementation of the Community Policing initiative in order to fight crime and criminality.
He said “This is a welcome development for us as a State because we have since realised that the best way to guarantee the security of our people is by embracing a bottom up approach which emphasizes early warning, intelligence gathering and crime prevention. With a grassroots and people driven approach such as Community Policing, we are more likely to identify and fish out criminals, thereby saving the citizens from the agony associated with loss of lives and properties”.
The Committee has CP Edward Egbuka, Plateau State Commissioner of Police as Chairman and His Majesty, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, Gbong Gwom Jos & Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs – Co-Chairman.
The Governor charged the Committee which is the highest custodian of Community Policing in the State to be focused and resolute in carrying out this assignment by shunning every distraction that could arise from religious, ethnic or political pressures.
Lalong said the Government and people of Plateau State will also be looking up to the Committee to act in the best interest of peace and security of all.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Lawal Shehu said the concept of Community Policing is to ensure that the people are involved in security affairs with more emphasis on intelligence and information gathering.
He said the special constables to be recruited will be people of good standing in society who are gainfully engaged with good record within the community.
He said they are not to take over from the police, but to collaborate with the police under their supervision and as such, they will be thoroughly screened to ensure that criminals are not involved.
Co-Chairman of the Committee, Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba assured that they will be focused and resolute in carrying out their assignment by shunning every distraction that could arise from religious, ethnic or political pressures.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police for their commitment to ensuring that policing is enhanced in line with the Federal system and constitutional provision that Governors are Chief Security Officers of their States.
Members of the the Plateau State Community Policing Advisory Committee are drawn from a wide spectrum of society.

As preparations continue in earnest for the next elections of Plateau Youth Council, the state chairman of PYC Dr. Fabong Jemchang has expressed commitment to to ensuring a smooth transition of leadership. He made his position known in a press statement made available to journalists. Full statement below

Great Plateau Youths,

My name is Dr Fabong Jemchang Yildam, Chairman, Plateau State Youth Council, the umbrella body of all the youths on the Plateau irrespective of their political affiliation, tribal extraction or religious beliefs.

You recalled May 22, 2017, we were sworn-in as EXCO to administer the Plateau State Youth Council. Today May 22, 2020 marks three (3) years in office.

Ideally we would have been preparing to swear in a new EXCO, but extraordinary circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent ban on all social gatherings made this impossible.

Today, I stand on behalf of the EXCO, Leadership and members of the Central Working Committee and the 17 LG Chairmen of the Council to thank the entire youths on the Plateau for their support, steadfastness and resilience.

We are determined more than ever to midwife the process of a new administration immediately Government lifts the ban on social gathering. Our inability to continue was strictly in obedience of the Executive Order of the Governor of Plateau State and the President of the Federal Republic.

We appeal that youth remain calm and continue to be supportive. Together we shall win.

PRESS STATEMENT

COVID-19: PLATEAU STATE GOVERNMENT BANS EID PRAYERS

In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Plateau State and in furtherance of the Resolutions reached at the Plateau State Security Council Meeting presided over by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, Government wishes to intimate the citizens of the following decisions particularly as it relates to the forth coming Eid-el-Ftr Sallah celebrations:

1. That all Eid praying grounds across the State shall be closed to all worshippers. This is line with existing ban on all large public gatherings in tandem with the directive of the President-General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs His Eminence, Sultan Mohammed Abubakar that all muslims should suspend congregational Eid Prayers and pray at home.
2. Where prayers are observed in mosques, they should abide by the regulations for not more than 50 persons, hand washing, use of sanitizers and social distancing.
3. That operation of Tricycle ( Keke Napep) have been banned for Saturday 23 and Sunday 24, May 2020.
4. In line with existing Government Orders, all recreational centres across the State shall remain closed. 4. Security agencies have been directed to enforce the above restrictions.

His Excellency Governor Simon Lalong appeals to all citizens to adhere to these regulations and continue to take every personal precaution towards preventing the spread of COVID-19.
He urges them to note that at the moment, the State is witnessing more infections as a result of community spread which can be worsened by large congregation of people.
The Governor wishes all Muslim faithfuls in the State a happy Eid-el-Ftr, and calls on them to use the period to pray for God to intervene and stop the pandemic.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S SUPPORT FOR PLATEAU STATE UNIVERSITY BOKKOS: RESULT OF GOVERNOR SIMON LALONG’S DIPLOMACY – Manjang

Plateau State Commissioner of Information and Communication Dan Manjang has welcomed the Federal Executive Council’s approval of the sum of over six hundred million naira for the establishment of a faculty of Medical Services at the Plateau State university Bokkos, attributing the gesture to Governor Simon Lalong’s lobbying capacity and diplomacy.
The Council also approved Funds for the procurement of equipment and furniture for the faculty.
Manjang said among many competing demands across states and Federal Government institutions, Governor Lalong leveraged on his personal and official contacts to get the nod of the Federal Government for the important intervention at PLASU which when completed will impact on the country’s health system.
He said the FEC approval is more important because of the financial difficulty governments are passing through to the extent of cutting down on budgets and suspending some projects as a result of the negative effect of COVID 19.
The Commissioner recalled that Governor Lalong recently secured for some citizens of the state appointments into some Federal agencies and board membership of parastatals.
Dan Manjang call on Plateau citizens to continue to support the Federal and Plateau state Governments for more gains of democracy in the form of projects and appointments.
He noted that while there are many requests on the table of the Federal Government from Plateau, Manjang express confidence Governor Lalong will get what is due for Plateau state and its citizens.

DR.HOSEA SENT A CONDOLENCE MESSAGE TO THE FAMILY OF THE LATE ALH. AHMADU ZITTA,THE VILLAGE HEAD OF KUNKYAM TO EXPRESS HIS SADNESS OVER HIS DEMISE.

It is with great sadness that I learnt of the death of the Village Head of Kunkyam Alh.Ahmadu Zitta.He was a true stateman who served his people with distinction.

On behalf of my family,I wish to convey to your family,friends of the deceased,the Kunkyam Community and the Kanam Emirate Council our deepest sympathy at this sad time and pray that the Almighty God grant you all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
