WASE KILLINGS; VILLAGERS RECOVER EIGHT CORPSES AFTER BANDITS ATTACK

“As Senator Daduut fumes, urge security agencies to intensify efforts to investigate the matter”

By Golok Nanmwa, Jos

Operation Safe Haven, deployed to restore law and order in Plateau, on Tuesday, confirmed that bandits attacked Angwan Bashar community and another community in Kanam Local Government Area of the State.

Military Information Officer Major Ishaku Takwa Takwa told newsmen in Jos that after the attacks by the bandits on the two communities were repelled by the troops in conjunction with the local vigilante group, eight corpses belonging to the bandits were recovered by the villagers.

Takwa said, “What happened was that there was an attack by bandits yesterday in the night on Angwa Bashar in Kanam LGA.”

“Before our troops arrived with heavy gunfire, the vigilante men were already engaging the bandits. So, the troops in conjunction with the vigilante men were able to repel the attack. But as the attack in Angwan Bashar was going on, we received information that another set of bandits was attacking another village within the council area.”

“So our troops withdrew from Angwan Bashar and moved to the said community and repelled the attack. After the operation, the villagers told us that they recovered eight corpses but our troops did not suffer any casualty.”

Takwa, who described the onslaught against the bandits in the two communities as successful, called on the people to always provide the military and other security agents with timely information to enable them to protect the people.

“A criminal is a criminal. All that is going on in that area is criminality, whether cattle rustling, kidnapping, or attack on a community. They are all the same. All that we need is for the people to let us know in time about the activities of these criminals so that we can deal with the situation,” the Military Information Officer added.

One of the vigilante men, who participated in repelling the attacks, Tasiu Ibrahim, said that before the attack on their communities, the bandits had given them quit notice to vacate their area.

Ibrahim said, “We got the quit notice last week Tuesday where the bandits said we must leave our villages or they will kill all of us. We also learnt that similar quit notices were served on other villages by the bandits.”

“We don’t know where we are going to run to and everyone knows that those people do not make empty threats. But we thank God that they did not succeed when they eventually tried to carry out their threat to kill all of us. Instead, some of them were the ones who died because we recovered about eight of their corpses after they attacked us.”

Reacting to the development, the Senator representing Plateau South, Prof. Nora Daduut, lamented the insecurity in some parts of Kanan and Wase LGAs and called on security operatives to come to the rescue of the people in the affected communities.

“As the senator representing Plateau South, I urge security agencies to intensify efforts to investigate the matter with the aim of bringing perpetrators to book and as well deploy drones and helicopters to monitor forests around Plateau South senatorial district, to identify illegal camps of armed bandits throughout the country.

“I also seek for collaboration amongst various security agencies on intelligence gathering and call on the people of my senatorial district to be security conscious.”

APPEAL COURT JOS SACKS HON. BITRUS ZULFA RIMVEN AS CHAIRMAN LANGTANG NORTH LGC

By Prince Sekat, Jos

Appeal Court Jos Sacks Hon. Bitrus Zulfa Rimven as Chairman Langtang North LGC
The Court of Appeal sitting in Jos has, this day 1st July, 2022, sacked Bitrus Zulfa Rimven as Chairman, Langtang North L.G.C.

You will recall that following the judgement of the Plateau State High Court of Justice sitting in Langtang on the 13th day of December, 2021 in Suit No. PLD/L7CV/2021 which was instituted by Hon. Nankar Napoleon Shagaya against the APC, Zulfa and PLASIEC, in which the High Court nullified the candidature of Bitrus Zulfa Rimven and pronounced that he was never elected as Chairman of Langtang North L.G.C, Zulfa had filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal challenging the propriety of the judgement of the High Court.

In a considered judgement delivered for about 4 hours today, the three justices of the Court of Appeal unanimously (meaning all the three justices were in agreement) dismissed the appeal filed by Zulfa for lacking in merit.

The Court while dismissing the Appellant’s appeal commended the erudite judgement delivered by the Honourable Justice N.K Sasheet of the High Court of Justice of Plateau State sitting in Langtang and reasoned that the soundness of the judgment could not be assailed and therefore cannot be tampered with by the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal re-iterated the orders of the High Court which include, among others, the nullification of the candidacy of Bitrus Zulfa Rimven and the order to the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to withdraw the purported Certificate of Return it issued to Zulfa as the winner of the chairmanship election for Langtang North.

Further more, their Lordships in their wisdom awarded a cost of N250,000 Naira against Zulfa and in favour of Hon.

Further more, their Lordships in their wisdom awarded a cost of N250,000 Naira against Zulfa and in favour of Hon. Nankar Napoleon Shagaya to mitigate the financial burden the latter has been made to go through as a result of the unmeritorious appeal filed by Zulfa.

While we congratulate the judiciary for stepping in to salvage our democracy once againmay we salute the courage of Hon. Nankar Shagaya for approaching the court to assert his right as well as standing tall throughout the period of the struggle for justice.

May we also salute the Tarok electorates who have never hidden their love and support for this legal venture; your prayers and well wishes in various respects have kept us going. We can’t thank you enough!

To the slaves of impunity, we say to you that no matter how long a night may seem to last, daybreak must come. The end is in sight and, as you will have witnessed in the political landscape, your impunity has boomeranged as you have completely lost the political grip you had erroneously thought such dastardly act would deliver to you guys.

As a legal team, we hereby applaud Hon. Nankar Shagaya for trusting us with a sensitive case of this nature which we have delivered with such aplomb to glory of the Almighty God. For L.T Dangle Esq., N.A Dashe Esq., and a host of others who have contributed in one way or the other throughout this legal battle, I salute you. At least, we shall stand to be counted among the few honorable men who refused to be browbeaten into hobnobbing with impunity by the so- called high and mighty. Well, I say no more!

We were in this for service and the attainment of Justice, and not for any pecuniary benefits, and so shall we remain! We are equally resolutely determined to continue to employ the instrumentality of the law even beyond May 29, 2023 to hold to account any illegal occupant of public office and we shall see to it that all financial benefits that will have accrued to any such person are returned to the public coffers.

It was Alexander the Great who once said: “There is nothing impossible to he that will try.”

Thank you all!

Prince Singa Edward Zhattau,
Lead Counsel to Hon. Nankar Shagaya

2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS: PDP MUST UNITE OR FACE DEFEAT-SEN. JANG

By Prince Sekat,Jos

The Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Plateau State Chapter and Former Governor of Plateau State ,Senator Jonah David Jang has disclosed that “as the days leading to the 2023 general elections draw near and with the completion of the processes that led to the emergence of the candidates of our great party, the PDP, it has become apparent that we must urgently put our house in order if we are to make an impact in the elections.

In a press statement made available to this media by Mr Clinton Garba in Jos .

Jang said ,”the governorship elections in Ekiti state have shown us that we cannot go to the general elections with a divided house.

It is instructive that we must return to the drawing board, make right the wrong decisions we have taken and begin to ensure that we are prepared to go to the field without any baggage from the decisions we have made”.

Sen Jonah David Jang pointed out that ,as one of the founding fathers alive today, one who participated in the processes that set the background for our primaries, I am compelled to add my voice to that of prominent members of our great party who have shown dismay with recent happenings, particularly with the emergence of the Vice-presidential candidate.

While it is no longer news that the presidential primaries have come and gone and a candidate emerged, it is disheartening that the manner in which the vice-presidential candidate emerged is nothing but sheer disregard for processes.

We all are aware of the fact that the party, in consultation with the presidential candidate, set up a committee to select a running mate.

To turn around and throw away the outcome of the exercise is a clear proof that the work of the committee was either not appreciated or was not going to be in consideration ab initio.

To quote Governor Samuel Ortom who was a member of the 17-member committee set up by Atiku to recommend a running mate for him, he said “Fourteen of us in the committee said the person should be Nyesom Wike unfortunately Atiku picked Okowa in his wisdom.” He added that “You cannot ignore a decision of a committee you set up yourself and expect people to be happy.”

We cannot disregard people who have dedicated themselves to building the party and expect to make meaningful progress.

That such people are treated the way the party is currently doing is a pointer to the fact that more is to come. No one who intends to go against the APC, which has failed in its promises but thrives on propaganda will go with a divided camp.

This explains the urgency with which the party ought to retrace its step in the right direction with a hope of salvaging the already bad situation within the shortest time.

The Board of Trustees (BoT) and the NWC is aware of the cracks already rearing its ugly head and must do all within its powers to stop further dissonance arising from the treatment of ranking members of the party especially Governor Nyesom Wike .

That the Governors of the party have started distancing themselves from the activities of the party and other influential members making public statements indicating their displeasure is a not a good sign.

Whatever the party or the presidential candidate had agreed with Governor Nyesom Wike should have been followed as a mark of honesty, sincerity and in the spirit of the unity of the party.

Plunging the party into unnecessary disagreements months away from the general elections is not in the interest of the party or its teeming supporters who were looking forward to a formidable front to dislodge the APC and the sufferings it has brought on the people.

It is unfortunate that the very man who admittedly, has been a pillar of the party at a time the repressive tendencies of the governing APC was to send the PDP into oblivion will be treated in the manner the party has. Until we correct the mistakes, which we deliberately made, the future is bleak and the PDP may be caught in a trap it has set for itself.

We cannot run a campaign for a candidate whose campaign promise is hinged on uniting Nigerians but not be seen to be doing enough to bring party members together.

The time to act is now, all well-meaning party leaders and stakeholders must rise in defence of the truth as a way of assuring our teeming supporters of the seriousness of the party to wrest power form the APC and end the bad governance which has become the order of the day.

We cannot fold our hands and watch the party drift away from the tenets which have made it the only truly democratic party in Nigeria. The whims of a few should not be allowed to override the choices of many who believe in the PDP and its ability to return Nigeria to the glorious days.

NO IMPEACHMENT THREAT IN LANGTANG NORTH LGA, APC FINGERS PDP FOR INCITING HATRED

Prince Sekat, Jos

The Acting Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State , on Reuben Wuyep has fingered the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP , as behind the calling for the removal of the democratically elected chairman of Langtang North LGC Hon. Barr Bitrus Zulfa Rimven Esq by a faceless group sponsored to create acronym and political hatred.

Hon Wuyep stated this and made it available to this medium in Jos.

He condemned the plot saying, ” APC, as a political party is marveled by the publication, is, to say the least that nothing of such To the best of the party knowledge.

Wuyep disclosed that their attention has been drawn to a publication of a group under the aegis of Langtang North United for Change (LNUAC) on Sunday 26th June 2022 calling for the removal of the democratically elected chairman of Langtang North LGC Hon. Barr Bitrus Zulfa Rimven Esq. To say APC as a political party is marveled by the publication is, to say the least. To the best of our knowledge, there has never been, and there is no group as such in Langtang North APC.

According to him, It is ridiculous for some unscrupulous elements whose handiwork is too foment trouble to take to the media and write balderdash against the peace Loving Chairman of Langtang North, who is the party leader.

In fact, there has been no time a group as such identified or approached the Party secretariat. All groups in APC Langtang North are registered by the secretariat and are well captured in all party activities.

APC is and organized party with a clear code and channels of communication, as such we are forced to believe that the descendants of Shemaiah are here again to do their work. But there’s a sense in what we say that “the God we worship never sleeps nor slumbers” as the said publication comes with the identity of the sponsors as their errand boys are the only ones fingered in sharing the said publication on the social media.

That the said group had the courage to make publication in a bit to damage the reputation of the chairman ended up using a non-existent name as the coordinator of the group and a non-existent group is indeed a tragedy of gigantic proportion.

In other words, the orchestrator of the said publication knew beforehand that they are out to peddle falsehood.

This was the same method they used on the former council chairman of Langtang North Hon. Nanloh Amos Kparnim and because they got away with it, they are here again.

This publication is no doubt the handiwork of the opposition party (PDP), acting with so much desperation to pain the performing APC-led administration in a bad light. This is a joke taken too far.

Haven’t been given the mantle of leadership in Langtang North in the recently passed by the executive Governor of the plateau state with no single project to show, we expect the opposition party, the PDP to instead, bury themselves in shame rather than trying to compare a six(PDP) with a dozen (APC).

We are therefore, warning the said people of the danger of swimming against the tidal waves. If the said people have the temerity, they should unmask themselves. However, the discerning public did the needful by throwing the bathwater with the dirtiest baby. we consider their recent actions as the last kicks of a dying horse.

We are therefore calling on the general public to disregard the said publication as it is the handiwork of mischief makers who are held bent on truncating the current peace and stability being enjoyed in Langtang North under the APC-led administration.
